- Create a Mixpanel service account under Organization Settings → Service Accounts. Consumer supports read-only queries; Admin on the projects is needed for annotations.
- Select the data residency region: US, EU or India. Enter the service account username and secret, then validate.
- Choose from the projects the account can access. Each selected project becomes a separate integration with its own query budget and checks.
Permissions and access
Consumer is the read-only role. Admin enables chart annotations; download_events_csv additionally permits raw event export. Without that permission, aggregate analytics still works. Polylane stores the encrypted secret, not an agent-visible password. It queries Mixpanel events and reports; annotations are the documented write-back.
Discovery, refresh and the connected view
Agents run segmentation queries, discover event names and property values, read saved funnels, Insights and retention, and optionally export event samples. Daily event-volume checks run once a day because product analytics settles per day. Agent calls and the daily check share Mixpanel’s limit of 60 Query API requests per hour per project.
Example workflow
Investigate a signup-conversion drop after a deployment by comparing the saved signup funnel with segmentation for the affected event and property values. If raw export is enabled, inspect event samples for missing properties. Add an annotation marking the deploy so the team can revisit the incident in its existing Mixpanel charts.
Disconnect and revoke access
Disconnect the project integration in Polylane and delete the service account in Mixpanel to revoke its credentials. Consider other connected projects before deleting a shared account.
