Set up the Polylane CLI
One command on macOS or Linux. Fetching this URL from a terminal (curl, wget) returns the script itself.
curl -fsSL https://polylane.com/setup | bash What the script does
- Downloads the latest CLI release from GitHub, verifies its sha256, and installs it to
~/.polylane/bin. Pin a version withPOLYLANE_VERSION=v0.2.1, or change the destination withPOLYLANE_PREFIX. - Adds the install directory to your PATH and verifies the install with
polylane --version. - Runs
polylane setupto wire the CLI into your coding agents: registers the Polylane MCP server in each agent's own config (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, opencode, Windsurf, pi, Warp, Cline, Roo, Gemini, Zed, and Codex) and installs the Polylane agent skills. Skip it withbash -s -- --no-setuporPOLYLANE_SKIP_SETUP=1. - Signs you in before anything touches a workspace: browser sign-in with GitHub or Google, a device code on machines without a browser, or email and password. Signing in creates your account and workspace on the spot.
- Mints a workspace API key scoped to what your coding agents need and writes it into each agent's Polylane MCP entry. The key is listed under Settings, then API keys, in the console, and you can revoke it there any time.
- Walks you through connecting GitHub, Slack, cloud accounts, observability tools, or a cloud coding agent. The script keeps asking until your workspace has at least one verified source; an existing connection satisfies the check on a rerun.
- Needs Node.js 20 or later. Without it, the script falls back to Homebrew, which installs Node for you.
- Safe to re-run: completed steps skip themselves, and an interrupted install resumes where it stopped. Preview the whole plan first with
bash -s -- --dry-run.
Sign-in options
polylane auth login # browser OAuth (GitHub or Google)
polylane auth login --no-browser # device code, for SSH and headless machines
polylane auth signup # email + password The script prompts for sign-in as part of the install; these are the same commands it runs, so you can also run them yourself. Already signed in? The script notices and moves on. Full walkthrough in the getting started guide.
Other ways to install
brew install coreplanelabs/tap/polylane # Homebrew
npm install -g @coreplane/polylane # npm (Node.js 20+) Uninstall
curl -fsSL https://polylane.com/uninstall | sh The exact inverse of this setup script: it backs up your local data first, then removes the CLI, agent MCP registrations, skills, and PATH entries. Details at polylane.com/uninstall.
